Matthew Lauten started practicing astrology in the late ‘80’s for personal electional purposes. His astonishment with his success in using it drove him to get formally educated by the Astrologos School of Astrology. After the completion of seven years of study and the passing of rigorous examinations, Matthew was awarded a Diploma in Astrology from The Astrological Guild of Educators International, an independent certification board. Since then he has opened a professional practice for clients and does natal and predictive readings, elections, relationship analysis, and a wide array of other astrological services. Matthew is an ordained minister, who is legally sanctioned to offer astrological advice. He currently writes a monthly column for an astrology magazine and has worked for a professional astrological internet service. He has had articles on astrology published internationally and he gives lectures at astrological events.
Matthew grew up in the New York City metropolitan area. He graduated from New York University in 1985. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 80’s. He spent many years studying the world’s religions and different aspects of spirituality. He moved to Tucson in 1991 after falling in love with the Southwest. He has also studied aromatherapy in depth. His main interests are the human mind and condition, music, nature and the outdoors, gardening, healing psychology, alternative health methods, vegetarian cooking, yoga, and simple healthy, harmonious living. Matthew also co-owns and runs a Zen/Japanese Garden Landscape Contractor company, Arizona Zenscapes, in Tucson (www.ArizonaZenscapes.com).
To keep up to date in all current astrological trends and issues, Matthew belongs to several professional associations:
-Association For Astrological Networking (AFAN): this group’s main focus is to make and keep astrology legal and to respond to media misrepresentations of astrology.
-International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR): this group’s main focus is to make and keep astrology as a professional practice through education, testing, and having a code of ethics. Matthew adheres strictly to the ISAR Code of Ethics and believes that any persons calling themselves professional astrologers should be properly educated, or has the ability to pass examinations proving their astrological knowledge and ability, before practicing as a professional.
-National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR): this group encourages both quantitative and qualitative research in astrology and professional education.
-The Tucson Astrologers Guild (TAG): Matthew is an Executive Committee Member of this local group that provides Southeast Arizona with a convivial gathering space for local astrologers to further educate themselves and share information. The group holds monthly meetings in Tucson and Matthew lectures at them occasionally. If you are interested in this group’s activities, please contact me for further information.
